  • author is "Freud" and subject is not "unconscious"
  • title word is "cognitive" and " learning"
  • title word is "cognitive" and "therapy" and author is not "Mahoney" and publication date during 1997
  • title starts "cognitive behavioral"
  • subject word is "pain" and publication date after 1985

Instructions

The search language lets you send us complex descriptions of books that you're looking for.

You can specify various properties of the book (like the title), various values for the properties (like "Alice in Wonderland"), and what the relationship between the value and the property should be (such as "equal", or "less than").

Here are the properties of a book that you can use in your description of what you're looking for.

   title
   title word
   subject
   subject word
   author
   keyword
   isbn
   publication date (pdate)

Here are the words you can use to describe the relationship between a given property and some value. Some of the words below are equivalent to one another.

   equals greater during
   is less between
   isn't greater or equal before
   starts less or equal after
   begins higher earlier
   lower later

You can use the words "and", "or", and "not" to link together different parts of a book description. You can also group properties together using parentheses if that seems necessary to convey the precise meaning of your description.

Finally, it's advisable, although not always necessary, to put double quotes (") around things like titles. Titles (and sometimes authors' names and subject category names) may contain words that we recognize as "special." For example, looking for a book whose title includes words such as "and", "or", or "begins" is going to confuse us (even on a good day), unless you put quotes around the book's title.
